Research

  • California State University, Long Beach

    January - December 2020

    Advisor: Dr. Joshua Palkki

In this thesis, I explored the current body of research surrounding Universal Design for Learning, and from that scholarship, I synthesized 33 practical strategies that music educators can implement in their current practice.

  • MUS 621 Seminar

    American Band College

    Summer 2024

This project is a comprehensive written evaluation and voice-over critique of the recorded ensemble performances of myself and my peers. In this project, I demonstrate my master’s level knowledge of conducting, rehearsal, theory, and individual instrument pedagogy.

  • MUS 622 Seminar

    American Band College

    Summer 2025

    Selected as 2025 Model Project

In this research, I develop analytical techniques for studying, preparing, and performing a chosen work of band literature. I produce a three-part video, along with a comprehensive written analysis of the methods used in presenting the selected literature.

  • MUS 623 Seminar

    American Band College

    Summer 2026

This project culminates in an examination of at least 30 music selections, which requires in-depth research on various aspects, including the music itself, the composer, the arranger, the publisher, and performance elements. Additionally, the second half of this project involves the synthesis of materials and presentations by at least 20 selected clinicians over three years.

  • MUS 618: Practical Application 1

    American Band College

    Summer 2024

To address the minimal participation of young women in the double reed section at my middle school and high school, this magazine is designed as a practical guide for secondary female students who are starting bassoon for the first time. Throughout this magazine, you will see QR codes with play-along tracks, bassoon-specific articles, and resources to help you get started!

  • MUS 618: Practical Application 2

    American Band College

    Summer 2025

The purpose of this project is to create a practical workbook tailored for my middle school and early high school students. This book will provide comprehensive foundational knowledge about the low brass instruments, including the trombone, euphonium, and tuba. In two parts, this book aims to give students the Lowdown (AKA the history, assembly, maintenance) of these instruments, and then a Hoedown, which will be the practical tools and exercises to get started and to develop their technique and musicianship as low brass musicians.

  • MUS 618 Practical Application

    American Band College

    Summer 2026

The Alternative Fingering Toolbox is a practical resource where we’ll “build” a collection of essential tools, tricks, and alternate solutions for brass and woodwind musicians. I created a comprehensive resource book designed to help both myself and my students master alternate fingerings and technical fixes for their instrument.

This book will focus on the unique challenges of each instrument’s fingering system while providing practical strategies for solving common issues with intonation, tone quality, and technical passages. By constructing this resource, I’ll address my own weaknesses while creating a valuable “toolbox” for secondary band musicians and band directors alike.
